OpenAI has introduced a new feature that allows users to shop online through ChatGPT’s search function.

On Monday, OpenAI updated its “ChatGPT Search” feature, enabling all subscribers to receive product recommendations and make immediate purchases.

Both paid subscribers of ChatGPT Plus and Pro and free users can now access personalized product recommendations, detailed visual product information, pricing, and reviews through ChatGPT Search. Users can also request purchase links through prompts.

OpenAI emphasized that ChatGPT’s product recommendations are independent, data-driven results rather than advertisements. The company recommends products based on web-collected reviews and user preferences without any sales commissions.

Industry experts anticipate that OpenAI’s latest move will significantly impact the future of AI-driven commerce and advertising.

OpenAI also revealed plans to experiment with various affiliate revenue models in the future.

Recently, ChatGPT introduced a “Memory” feature for paid subscribers, allowing the AI to save and utilize important information from conversations autonomously. The company plans to leverage this feature to provide personalized product recommendations based on users’ conversation history.

An industry insider suggested that while OpenAI currently prioritizes recommendation quality, they will likely focus on revenue growth in the medium to long term, leveraging accumulated data and user experiences. This could begin OpenAI’s strategy to evolve from a search platform into a full-fledged e-commerce platform.
