A report of a handgun found in a reservoir in Ganghwa County, Incheon, has prompted an investigation by the police and military authorities.
According to the Incheon Ganghwa Police Station and the 2nd Marine Division on the 11th, the non-emergency police hotline received a report at around 7 PM the previous day that a pistol had been discovered in a reservoir in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa County.
Upon receiving the report, the police found a handgun in the reservoir that was largely corroded and wrapped in cloth, and handed it over to the military authorities.
Despite the difficulty of identifying the firearm’s serial number due to its condition, the military presumes it to be an old American-made pistol.
An official from the 2nd Marine Division said, “Looking at the corrosion of the firearm, there is no suspicion of anti-communist activities,” adding “The detailed circumstances are under investigation.”
