The Democratic Party of Korea strongly criticized President Yoon Suk Yeol on Monday, citing an audio file allegedly indicating his involvement in candidate nominations.
The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) sharply criticized President Yoon Suk Yeol on Monday following the emergence of an audio file allegedly linking him to candidate nominations.
During a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly, DPK Floor Leader Park Chan Dae called on both President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon Hee to address the allegations head-on. “President Yoon and First Lady Kim should not remain silent. They must provide a direct explanation,” Park said, adding, “If they are unwilling to take responsibility, the only proper course would be to relinquish their authority.”
Park further escalated his critique, stating, “The president’s approval rating is plummeting because he continues to evade the issue with lies and absurd claims that the audio recording itself was fabricated. He treats the public as fools.”
Referring to Myung Tae Kyun, a key figure mentioned in the controversy, Park said, “Some dismiss Myung Tae Kyun as a fraud or unreliable individual. But if that’s the case, what does it say about First Lady Kim, who depends on such a person? And what does it say about President Yoon, who allegedly received daily briefings from him? Are they admitting to being a naive couple, easily duped by a con artist?”
Park also criticized the ruling People Power Party (PPP) and urged them to act. “The only way to prevent the total collapse of the conservative bloc is to investigate and transparently address all allegations thoroughly,” he said. Representative Han Dong Hoon must make a decisive move and cooperate fully with the special investigation into Kim Keon Hee to meet the public’s expectations.”
Supreme Council Member Jeon Hyun Hee echoed Park’s calls for accountability, asserting, “A servant who cannot fulfill his duties should be replaced.” She added, “If this were the Joseon Dynasty, he would have been punished with flogging,” as she accused the current administration of corruption. “The only way forward for South Korea is to root out the corruption of the ‘Yoon Keon Hee’ administration,” she said, pledging that the Democratic Party would expose the truth about Kim Keon Hee’s involvement in state affairs.
Another Supreme Council Member, Song Soon Ho, urged Yoon to stop delaying and accept the special investigation law regarding First Lady Kim. “If the president neglects his duties to focus solely on protecting his wife, he should step down and focus on being a husband,” Song stated.
