Volvo Cars Korea announced on Tuesday that it will release a limited run of 100 units of the XC40 Black Edition exclusively through online sales, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The XC40 has ranked as the best-selling small SUV in Europe for four consecutive years since 2020. In South Korea, it also topped the list of imported compact SUVs, with 1,105 units sold between January and May this year.

The newly introduced XC40 Black Edition is identical to the model that sold out last October. It comes in a single Onyx Black exterior color with an Iron Mark logo on the front. The rear lettering features black accents instead of chrome, and the 20-inch 5-spoke high-gloss wheels are also finished in black.

Inside, the vehicle swaps out the traditional Driftwood trim for cutting-edge aluminum décor. The Orrefors crystal gear knob has been replaced with a leather black shifter, and the interior now features Charcoal-colored seats instead of the previous Blonde option.

According to Volvo Cars Korea, the XC40 Black Edition is based on the highest trim level, Ultra, and offers flagship-level specifications at a competitive price. Despite being an entry-level model in Volvo’s lineup, it includes advanced safety technologies and convenience features as standard, including an integrated TMAP infotainment system.

The package also includes industry-leading perks such as a 5-year or 100,000 km (62,000 miles) warranty on general parts and consumable replacements, 15 years of free over-the-air (OTA) updates, and a complimentary 5-year 5G digital package.

Lee Yoon Mo, CEO of Volvo Cars Korea, said the company decided to bring back the XC40 Black Edition in response to strong customer demand, following its rapid sellout last year. He expressed hope that customers would enjoy the unique Scandinavian premium experience at a reasonable price.

The XC40 Black Edition will be available for purchase through Volvo’s Digital Shop starting at 10:00 a.m. on June 17 for 56.1 million KRW (approximately 42,075 USD). Customers will receive a limited-edition welcome kit that includes a black pouch and a card wallet. Vehicles will be delivered sequentially based on the order of purchase.

This marks the fourth special edition release for the XC40. All previous editions sold out shortly after launch: the Sage Green Edition in July 2023 sold out in 3 minutes, the Dark Edition in April 2024 in four minutes, and the previous Black Edition in October 2024 in 7 minutes.
