IONNA, a North American HPC charging network for electric vehicles founded by 8 leading global automotive companies, including Hyundai Motor and Kia, has officially launched.

According to the industry sources on Wednesday, IONNA held its launch event for the HPC charging service on Tuesday at its headquarters in North Carolina.

During the event, IONNA announced the commencement of operations for four EV charging stations, including the “Apex Rechargery” near its headquarters and a customer experience research center focused on EV charging technology.

IONNA is a joint venture of eight leading automotive companies: Hyundai, Kia, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota. Its goal is to provide HPC charging services for EVs across North America.

IONNA plans to build a charging infrastructure that enables road trips in the U.S. using electric vehicles. It aims to install 1,000 chargers by 2025, ramping to 30,000 by 2030. Since its official launch in February last year, IONNA has already secured contracts for over 100 charging station locations within its first year.

IONNA has conducted more than 4,400 charging tests on over 80 EV models to provide customers with a premium charging experience. Furthermore, through a partnership with Amazon, it plans to introduce “Just Walk Out” cashierless convenience stores at select charging locations, enhancing user convenience.
