Hyundai Motor announced on Tuesday that its high-performance brand, Hyundai N, set a new record with its electric vehicle at a racing event in Japan.

On Saturday, at the Attack Tsukuba 2025 held at the Tsukuba Circuit Course 2000 in Japan, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec vehicle recorded a lap time of 57.446 seconds in the Racing Car and Slick Tire class.

This performance shattered the previous record of 59.598 seconds, set by the 1,033-horsepower Tesla Model S Plaid at last year’s Attack Tsukuba 2024, by more than two seconds.

The new record came just seven months after the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec claimed the fastest-production electric vehicle title at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the United States last June.

The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec retains the production vehicle’s core components, including the chassis and motor, while incorporating minimal racing-specific modifications to maximize performance.

Through advanced software tuning, Hyundai engineers boosted the rear motor output by 37 horsepower, bringing the total output to a formidable 687 horsepower. The vehicle has cutting-edge shock absorbers, motorsport-grade brakes, and 18-inch Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires. Aerodynamic enhancements have also been implemented to maximize downforce.

Nobuteru Taniguchi, a renowned Japanese race car driver who partnered with Hyundai N for this event, expressed that it was an honor to set a new record with the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec.

He added that the vehicle’s cornering ability and braking performance are exceptional. Despite its tremendous power, the car remains highly controllable, allowing him to push it to the limit confidently.
