NCAA Men’s Golf Champion Michael Thorbjornsen has decided to forgo his Masters invitation and join LIV Golf.

LIV Golf announced on Wednesday that the highly talented Thorbjornsen will compete for the HyFlyers GC, captained by Phil Mickelson.

Born in 2004, Thorbjornsen made waves at the University of Mississippi, clinching the NCAA Men’s Individual Championship last year.

Despite earning an amateur spot in this year’s Masters, he lost his eligibility after turning pro to join LIV Golf.

Thorbjornsen explained that he decided to make the move because he could not pass up the opportunity to learn from world-class players, adding that joining LIV Golf would allow him to compete at the highest level on a global stage.

Mickelson, in welcoming Thorbjornsen to the team, described him as one of golf’s most exciting young prospects and said his passion for winning is evident every time he tees off.

In preparation for the 2024 season, LIV Golf has also recruited former PGA Tour player An Byeong Hun (35), along with Victor Perez (France), Thomas Detry (Belgium), Rory Canter (England), and Elvis Smylie (Australia).

Through qualifying events, Canadian-Korean Lee Tae Hoon Lee and Korean-American Kim Anthony have also secured spots in the league.

The 2024 LIV Golf season is set to tee off on February 4 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
