LG Electronics announced on Tuesday that its TROMM WashTower has surpassed 3.2 million units in global cumulative sales. Since its initial launch in South Korea in April 2020, the innovative appliance has sold at a rate of more than one unit per minute for nearly six years.

The LG WashTower made its debut in the U.S. market in September 2020 and has since expanded its reach to 77 countries worldwide.

In its home market of South Korea, the WashTower hit the 1 million unit sales milestone last April, just five years after its introduction. Remarkably, it took only ten more months to surpass 1.2 million units, indicating a significant acceleration in sales. The appliance’s high energy efficiency and user-friendly features have contributed to its rapid market penetration in Europe and Latin America.

The LG WashTower is an innovative solution that combines a washer and dryer in a vertical configuration. LG Electronics developed this product in response to evolving housing trends, where shrinking laundry spaces in kitchens and extended balconies have led to an increase in stacked washer and dryer setups.

Standing approximately 9 cm (about 3.5 inches) shorter than traditional stacked units, the WashTower boasts a height of just 148.3 cm (about 58.4 inches) from the floor to the center of the dryer door. This design makes it easier for individuals of all heights to load and unload laundry or maintain the filter.

LG Electronics reports that the WashTower’s space-saving design and sleek aesthetics have garnered international recognition for both performance and convenience.

The appliance’s superior washing and drying capabilities, coupled with its high energy efficiency, have earned it the top spot in Forbes’ Best Washer and Dryer Set category for two consecutive years.

The global success of the LG WashTower can be attributed to LG Electronics’ proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) core technology. Leveraging decades of expertise in motor and inverter technology, the WashTower delivers precise and sophisticated hardware control.

In the past year, LG Electronics has further enhanced the WashTower’s AI capabilities. New features include AI Time Sensing, which assesses the laundry load and provides cycle completion time estimates within three seconds, and AI Time Guidance, which learns usage patterns to improve drying time predictions. Additionally, the WashTower now offers an AI Laundry Report, providing a comprehensive review of the washing results after each AI-controlled cycle.

To commemorate surpassing 3 million units in global sales, LG Electronics plans to offer special promotions next month for WashTower customers in South Korea. These will include cashback incentives, subscription fee discounts, and membership point accumulation. Similar events are also planned for international markets.

Looking ahead, LG Electronics aims to maintain its leadership in the combined washer-dryer market. The company plans to unveil a new WashTower model next month, featuring a streamlined design without a detergent drawer handle and further improvements in user convenience.

Baek Seung-tae, Vice President of LG Electronics’ Home Appliance Business Unit, stated that by leveraging the core component technology and AI capabilities, it aims to provide an enhanced garment care experience to a broader global customer base through the increasingly convenient LG WashTower.
