BLACKPINK Jisoo and Park Jung Min are starring together in the zombie drama Newtopia.
The entertainment streaming service Coupang Play released stills from Newtopia, written by Han Ji Won and Ji Ho Jin, and directed by Yoon Sung Hyun today.
In Newtopia, Park Jung Min portrays Lee Jae Yoon, a late-blooming soldier who grapples with anxiety about the future. His character navigates a zombie-infested downtown Seoul in search of his girlfriend, Kang Young Joo, played by Jisoo, a talented engineering graduate.
Park Jung Min, acclaimed for his roles in films like Deliver Us from Evil, Smugglers, and Start-Up, embodies the determined soldier Jae Yoon, while Jisoo, known for her role in Snowdrop and anticipated in Omniscient Reader’s ViewPoint, portrays the resilient Young Joo.
In this compelling storyline, Park Jung Min and Jisoo portray lovers racing through the dangerous streets of Seoul, now overrun by an unknown virus.
The recently released stills photos of Jae Yoon confronting the zombie crisis during his military service showcase his breathless demeanor and shocked expressions. Lim Sung Jae plays In Ho, Jae Yoon’s junior, adding tension with his astonished reactions. Meanwhile, Young Joo appears composed in a tranquil alleyway, enhancing the mystery surrounding the narrative.
Director Yoon Sung Hyun, known for his acclaimed debut film Bleak Night, hailed as the most brilliant debut of the year, and his distinctive style in Time to Hunt, embarks on a new series merging apocalypse and romance. This marks his third collaboration with Park Jung Min, continuing their successful partnership from Bleak Night and Time to Hunt, heightening anticipation for Newtopia.
Writer Han Jin Won, Academy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay for Parasite, collaborates with Ji Ho Jin, known for the stylish new-wave action film A Shop for Killers, to craft a compelling narrative about young people navigating love amidst a zombie apocalypse.
Newtopia is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
