Netflix has revealed the highly anticipated main cast for its upcoming drama Show Business (working title). The series is written by the acclaimed Noh Hee Kyung and directed by Lee Yoon Jung.
Set between the 1960s and 1980s, the drama follows a group of determined individuals who, despite coming from nothing, chase their dreams of stardom in a cutthroat industry. The characters’ journeys are filled with highs and lows, offering a compelling exploration of the pursuit of success.
Noh Hee Kyung is renowned for creating deeply emotional dramas that resonate with audiences, earning her the title of crafting life dramas. Her past works include beloved hits such as Our Blues, Dear My Friends, It’s Okay, That’s Love, That Winter, the Wind Blows, and Worlds Within. With Show Business, Noh Hee Kyung again brings her signature storytelling style to the screen.
Director Lee Yoon Jung, who has worked on iconic dramas like Coffee Prince, Heart to Heart, and Cheese in the Trap, is at the helm. Known for her ability to deliver high-quality, engaging, and distinctive content, her involvement has only added to the series’ excitement.
Thanks to her roles in The Glory, Descendants of the Sun, and That Winter, the Wind Blows, Song Hye Kyo, a household name in the K-drama world, will star as Min Ja. Min Ja is a woman who has weathered many storms throughout her youth, gaining unshakable inner strength. As Min Ja takes on life’s challenges, she boldly seizes opportunities in the Korean music industry. This marks her third collaboration with writer Noh Hee Kyung, and fans can expect a fresh and dynamic portrayal from the versatile actress.
Gong Yoo, famous for his roles in Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Coffee Prince, Squid Game2, and The Trunk, takes on the role of Dong Goo. Dong Goo shares a deep history with Min Ja, having grown up together through both joys and hardships. The two eventually embark on a journey into the music industry. Dong Goo is unpredictable and prone to misadventures, but his loyalty to Min Ja is unwavering. This project marks a reunion between Gong Yoo and director Lee Yoon Jung, following their successful collaboration on Coffee Prince, which launched Gong Yoo’s career.
Kim Seol Hyun will portray Min Hee, a character caught in a complex and emotionally charged relationship with Min Ja. Min Hee’s journey promises a nuanced performance, with Kim Seol Hyun showcasing her character’s transition from innocent obedience to sharp rebellion. Cha Seung Won, known for his roles in Uprising, Night in Paradise, and Believer 2, will play Gil Yeo, a legendary composer in the music industry whose career is marked by the success of every artist he works with. This marks Cha Seung Won’s second collaboration with Noh Hee Kyung, following Our Blues.
Lee Ha Nee, known for her standout performances in The Fiery Priest and Knight Flower, will play Min Hee’s mother, Yang Ja, an aspiring singer. Her portrayal will highlight Yang Ja’s unrelenting determination and passion for her dream despite her financial difficulties and the harsh realities of life.
