North Korea is making moves to resume tourism, which had been halted due to COVID-19. One step is allowing the entry of Russian group tourists. There are suggestions that general tourism could fully resume after July this year.

Young Pioneer Tours, a travel agency specializing in North Korea, announced on their website on the 24th, “We recently visited China and had discussions with the North Korean tourism authorities.” It also mentioned, “The mood is leaning towards opening the borders in July or later this year.”

However, they added, “The exact date for opening (tour packages) has not been confirmed yet,” implying that they are not yet in full-fledged discussions.

Young Pioneer Tours indicated that the overall cost of tourism is likely to increase.

Young Pioneer Tours explained, “The price of North Korean tour packages will increase as determined by the North Korean authorities,” adding, “This is an expected result as travel costs have hardly increased in the last 15 years.” However, they predicted that the increase would not exceed 20%.

Young Pioneer Tours currently prices most of its North Korean tourism products between 475 euros (approximately $518) and 1445 euros (roughly $1,576).
