A medical student accused of killing his ex-girlfriend near Gangnam Station has been expelled from his university, making it impossible for him to re-enroll.

The university issued the expulsion as a disciplinary action against Choi (25), who is on trial for murder charges, at the end of May. According to the university’s regulations, this is the highest level of disciplinary action with re-enrollment being impossible even after a certain period has passed. Before finalizing the disciplinary action, the university requested a written statement and testimony twice, but Choi did not respond. The university interpreted this as Choi forfeiting his right to testify and proceeded with the disciplinary action.

Choi is accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend with a premeditated weapon on the rooftop of a building near Gangnam Station in Seocho-gu, Seoul in May. Reports indicate that Choi committed the crime after she told him she wanted to break up.
