It has been confirmed that a general officer in charge of North Korean cyber warfare and special operations under the direct control of the Ministry of National Defense is under investigation for alleged insubordination.

According to South Korean military sources on July 4, the Ministry of National Defense’s Investigation Bureau is investigating allegations that a colonel of the Information Command challenged the command authority of a lieutenant colonel while he was suspended from duty. This is an act known as insubordination

The lieutenant colonel has been raising the possibility of legal issues with the colonel’s intelligence activities since May. It was reported that the Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense recently obtained a statement that there was verbal abuse and assault by the colonel during the reporting process.

The colonel is in charge of collecting human intelligence on North Korea, and he is known as a superior to the lieutenant colonel from the Army Officer Academy.

A Ministry of National Defense official said, “The related issue is currently under investigation by the military investigative agency,” adding, “We plan to deal with it according to the law and regulations depending on the results.”
