The world’s largest robotics and artificial intelligence competition is set to take place in Incheon, South Korea.

Incheon City announced today that it had been chosen as the host city for the RoboCup 2026 during the RoboCup Federation meeting held in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on the 18th.

Since its inception in Nagoya, Japan, in 1997, this competition has been held annually. The addition of the humanoid league in 2002, where robots kick a ball like humans, has significantly boosted its popularity.

The 2026 competition will feature five categories: soccer, rescue, logistics, caregiving, and a junior competition. Approximately 1,000 young participants will participate in 19 detailed events.

Approximately 15,000 people, including over 3,000 athletes and their families from 45 countries, are expected to visit Incheon, South Korea.

Incheon City plans to conduct pre-inspections and upgrade infrastructure facilities, including accommodations. Additionally, it will establish an organizing committee comprising relevant agencies and experts from diverse fields.

Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong Bok stated, “Drawing on our experience hosting international events such as the 2014 Asian Games, we are committed to making this RoboCup the most significant and grand event in its history.”
