EtcHigh Jump Star Barshim Shuts Down Injury Rumors Ahead of Paris Olympics

Mutaz Barshim, the reigning men’s high jump champion, has dispelled recent injury rumors just ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Barshim shared a cheerful photo on his social media on the 21st, accompanied by a statement: “Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m healthy and didn’t get injured today.”

Speculation about Barshim’s health emerged shortly after the 2024 World Athletics Diamond League held in London.

Despite training as usual at the London Stadium until the day before the event, Barshim withdrew on the day of the competition, leading to questions about his condition.

However, Barshim clarified, “Unfortunately, I couldn’t compete due to a mistake caused by the organizers, not allowing me to use my full approach (not enough space for the run-up).” He explained that logistical issues, not injury, prevented his participation.

He concluded his post by saying, “I’m sorry you didn’t get to see me compete. See you in Paris!”

As the defending Olympic champion, Barshim aims to make history by becoming the first male high jumper to win consecutive gold medals at the upcoming Paris Games.

Barshim, who has declared that the Paris Olympics will be his final appearance at the Games, will also serve as the flag bearer for the Qatari delegation. He aims to end his illustrious Olympic career on a high note with a victorious performance.

Meanwhile, with Barshim directly addressing the injury rumors, fans can anticipate watching him compete against Woo Sang Hyuk in the men’s high jump at the Paris Olympics.

Since the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Woo has become a top-tier jumper on the global stage, forging a rivalry with Barshim in various international competitions.

During the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Woo narrowly missed out on the gold medal following an intense final showdown with Barshim, ultimately securing the silver medal.
