On the 30th, President Yoon Suk Yeol met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to discuss ways to advance relations between South Korea and Australia.

During their afternoon meeting at South Korea’s Presidential Office, Yoon emphasized that their alliance with Australia is crucial as various strategic challenges are increasing in the regional and international community. He noted that Australia is a key partner in implementing its Indo-Pacific strategy and an ally that fought together during the Korean War.

He said, “I hope that our relationship will take a significant leap forward in security, economy, and defense cooperation.”

In response, Wong acknowledged that since Yoon’s inauguration, she has felt that cooperation between South Korea and Australia has strengthened. She added that she would work to expand their collaboration, especially in security, defense industry, and economic security, and further develop their strategic partnership on regional and international stages.
