Jo Jin Mi and Kim Mi Rae have made history by winning North Korea’s first-ever Olympic diving medal, achieving a significant milestone in the country’s sporting history.

The duo and Kim secured a silver medal in the women’s synchronized 10m platform final at the Paris Olympics, which took place on Wednesday at the Aquatic Center in Paris. They achieved a total score of 315.90 points across five rounds.

China’s Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan won the gold medal with 359.10 points, while Britain’s Andrea Spendolini Sirieix and Lois Toulson claimed the bronze medal with 304.38 points.

This marks the first Olympic medal won by North Korean divers.

After finishing fourth in the women’s 10m platform at the 2016 Rio Olympics and narrowly missing the podium, Kim has finally overcome that disappointment after eight years.

Jo and Kim have dedicated much time to training together in this discipline.

They secured a gold medal at the FINA Diving World Series in Montreal, Canada.

In February of this year, they also earned a silver medal in the women’s synchronized 10m platform event at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Their exceptional teamwork and synchronization propelled them to a second-place finish on the Olympic stage.

North Korea has secured two medals at this tournament. The day before, Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong of the table tennis mixed doubles team secured a silver medal, contributing to North Korea’s two silver medals.
