EtcNorth Korea Ramps Up Efforts to Protect Crops from Flood Damage

During recovery efforts from recent flood damage, North Korea urges measures to prevent water damage to crops as the harvest season draws near.

In an article titled “Let’s Strongly Implement Measures to Prevent Water Damage in the Agricultural Sector, “Rodong Sinmun emphasized the need to implement strong measures to prevent water damage in agriculture. The article highlighted that unfavorable weather and climate conditions, including unseasonable rain and persistent hot weather, negatively affect crop growth. It emphasized the urgent need to establish agricultural technical measures in response.

The article pointed out that as autumn approaches, preventing water damage becomes crucial in determining the success of this year’s grain production goals. It stressed that it is unacceptable for the nation to lose the grains it has cultivated through great effort to water damage.

It also underscored that cultivating crops is not only an economical and practical endeavor but also a vital political task directly linked to the Party’s authority and the nation’s dignity, emphasizing the importance of securing food supplies.

To combat potential water damage, the article suggested organizing effective drainage systems around fields, including perimeter and internal drainage ditches, and ensuring proper drainage on sloped terrain. Drainage measures should also be considered in fields prone to water accumulation.

Furthermore, the article called on agricultural workers to strengthen their resolve and vigorously implement measures to protect crops, including those that prevent water damage, to ensure that every stalk of grain can produce full ears.

North Korea has prioritized grain production as its top economic goal this year, focusing on increasing agricultural output. With the main harvest season approaching and recent flood damage occurring, the country appears to be trying to preserve the remaining crops.
