Suga’s Scooter Scandal: BTS Star Charged with Drunk Driving After High BAC

EtcSuga’s Scooter Scandal: BTS Star Charged with Drunk Driving After High BAC

Min Yoongi, known as Suga from BTS, has been subject to a summary indictment following an investigation into drunk driving on an electric scooter.

The Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office announced today that Suga has been formally charged with drunk driving through a summary indictment. This process allows the court to impose fines or penalties without a formal trial.

Suga, who is currently fulfilling his duties as a social service worker, is accused of drinking and riding an electric scooter around 11:15 PM on August 6 near his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul. After falling from the scooter, his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was found to be 0.227%, indicating a high level of intoxication.

Under South Korean law, a BAC of 0.08% or higher results in license revocation and potential penalties of 1 to 2 years in prison or fines ranging from 5 million to 10 million won (approximately $3,700 to $7,500). A BAC exceeding 0.2% leads to more severe consequences, including imprisonment for 2 to 5 years and fines between 10 million and 20 million won (approximately $7,500 to $15,000).

Suga appeared at the Yongsan Police Station on August 23, 17 days after the incident, for questioning. During the investigation, he admitted to the charges against him.
