EtcIncheon Airport on Alert as North Korea's 'Garbage Balloons' Float By!

North Korea’s balloons have entered the airspace over Yeongjongdo Island, prompting Incheon International Airport and relevant authorities to remain on high alert. This increased vigilance follows the discovery of a trash-filled balloon on the airport’s runway on September 23, which temporarily halted aircraft departures.

According to a report from News1 on Wednesday, six balloons aimed at South Korea were spotted over Yeongjongdo Island.

The balloons were tracked between 7:11 AM and 7:50 AM over various locations, including Jangbongdo, Ganghwado, Jumuido, Terminal 1 at Incheon Airport, and the aircraft maintenance area.

Fortunately, the balloons did not load on the runway, allowing flight operations to continue normally. An airport official stated, “While the balloons were observed in the airspace, they did not fall onto the runway, so flights are operating as usual.”

This incident marks North Korea’s 23rd provocation since it first launched these balloons on May 28.
