Democratic Party Representative Park Jiwon alleged that the so-called “Myung Tae Kyun scandal” was a key factor behind President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law on December 3rd.

Park confidently linked the two events in an interview on Monday on CBS Radio’s Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show. He explained, “I see two reasons for the martial law declaration. First, there was reliance on a shaman’s prediction that their luck would change after the 2025 Lunar New Year. Second, about a month before the martial law, First Lady Kim Keon Hee received a report on the Myung Tae Kyun scandal investigation. She told the President they’d all be ‘finished’ if it broke, which convinced him to declare martial law immediately.”

Park noted, “I made these statements on air, and the presidential office couldn’t mount a strong rebuttal. If I were mistaken, those litigation-happy individuals would have sued me by now.”

He also revealed that journalists investigating the Myung Tae Kyun scandal had informed him of a statement allegedly made by Myung Tae Kyun: “The first person to occupy the cell next to mine will be Oh Se Hoon, among other presidential hopefuls from the People Power Party.” Park suggested that recordings from the scandal would implicate not just the President and First Lady but also key figures in the People Power Party.

Furthermore, Park pointed out that his name was absent from the target list in the so-called Noh Sangwon notebook, remarking sarcastically, “Should I be grateful to Noh Sangwon?” He criticized what he described as political maneuvering, stating, “In 21st-century South Korea, are they conspiring to eliminate over 500 politicians and influential figures? We must conduct a special investigation to root out this issue thoroughly.”
