On Tuesday, Admiral Yang Yong Mo, the head of South Korea’s naval operations, met with Turkish Navy Chief Admiral Ercument Tatlıoğlu at the ROK Navy Headquarters.

According to the Navy, the two leaders discussed military diplomacy between the two navies, including high-level exchanges, personnel, and educational exchanges, defense industry cooperation, manned-unmanned complex combat systems, and ways to strengthen multi-domain maritime security cooperation.

The Navy explained, “The Republic of Korea and Turkiye navies have maintained a close cooperative relationship by running the annual “Navy-to-Navy Talks” regular meeting since 2008. Through Adm. Tatlıoğlu’s visit, both navies have further solidified their mutual relationship for maritime security and defense industry cooperation.”

This marks the sixth visit by a Turkish Naval Forces Commander, and it is Adm. Tatlıoğlu’s first time setting foot in Korea.

Adm. Tatlıoğlu met with General Kim Myung Soo, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the previous day to discuss defense cooperation between the two countries before the bilateral talks with Adm. Yang.

After he visited the Navy Headquarters, Adm. Tatlıoğlu paid his respects to the fallen soldiers at the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan. Turkiye deployed over 21,000 troops during the Korean War, and the remains of 462 fallen soldiers are interred at the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan.
