North Korean apples have been spotted for sale in supermarkets across Russia’s Far East.

On Wednesday, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported that North Korean apples are being sold for 169 rubles (about 2.01 USD) per kilogram at “REMI,” a supermarket chain in the Khabarovsk region.

The report states that the supermarket labeled the apples’ country of origin as “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.” The packaging date is listed as “March 17, 2025.”

These apples are reportedly imported in 20-kilogram boxes. The supplier is Hwanggeumsan, a North Korean foreign trade company.

In late June last year, Russian quarantine authorities and North Korea discussed the trade of apples, ginseng, and other produce. It appears these talks resulted in the distribution of North Korean apples in the Khabarovsk region.

In addition to apples, North Korea is expected to export processed ginseng products to Russia. Experts anticipate an increase in the variety of North Korean goods entering the Russian market in the coming months.
