In the early hours of Wednesday, an electric vehicle (EV) parked at a villa in Gyeyang District, Incheon, began emitting smoke. This prompted fire authorities to engage in an extensive firefighting operation lasting over two hours.

The Incheon Fire Department reported receiving an emergency call at 4:36 a.m. The caller reported a fire in a Kona EV parked at a villa in Gyulhyeon-dong, Gyeyang District.

Eyewitnesses described heavy smoke emanating from the vehicle but noted no visible flames.

Responding swiftly, the fire department dispatched 48 personnel and 16 pieces of equipment to the scene. Firefighters used hoses to cool and extinguish the potential fire. The operation concluded around 6:19 a.m., approximately two hours after the initial report.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The fire department is currently assessing the extent of property damage.

A spokesperson for the fire department stated that the preliminary findings suggest the fire originated from an electrical issue in the battery located beneath the parked vehicle. They added that they are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
