The film Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra, has maintained its second-place position at the North American box office for two consecutive weeks. To celebrate this success, Walt Disney Company Korea, the film’s distributor, has released a side-by-side comparison of stills from the original movie, which premiered 22 years ago, alongside images from the new sequel.

Freakier Friday brings back the hilarious body-swap premise, this time with an intergenerational twist. Mom Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan), who previously experienced a body switch, find themselves caught up in another mind-bending transformation that spans generations.

The original Freaky Friday, which hit North American theaters in 2003, was a box office smash, raking in over 160 million USD. This beloved classic introduced audiences to the chaos that ensues when a mother and daughter inexplicably swap bodies. The electric chemistry between the body-swapped Tess and Anna catapulted both actresses to superstardom.

Now, 22 years later, Freakier Friday sees Curtis return as Tess, now a successful psychologist, while Lohan reprises her role as Anna, who has become a pop star manager and single mom. However, the body-swapping mayhem takes an unexpected turn when Tess finds herself in the body of her granddaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons), and Anna swaps places with her daughter Harper (Julia Butters), leading to an unpredictable and hilarious rollercoaster of confusion.

The newly released stills from both films showcase the timeless chemistry between Curtis and Lohan. In the original, we see the bewilderment of a teenage daughter and a middle-aged mom grappling with their sudden body swap. Fast forward 22 years, and we witness Tess, now a grandmother, and Anna, a mother to a teenager herself, caught in another body-switching adventure. This clever parallel offers viewers a delightful mix of familiarity and fresh comedy.

In a fun nod to the original, where the characters hid behind a staircase railing to spy on an awkward situation, the sequel shows them conspiring behind a pile of dolls, creating a sense of tension and intrigue. The actresses’ performances in these mirrored scenes highlight their enduring on-screen rapport, proving that their chemistry has only improved with time. This generational update breathes new life into the body-swap comedy genre, promising double the laughs and double the chaos.
