Real Madrid has set a new record for the most goals scored by a single club in World Cup history, netting 19 times in the 2026 International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) North and Central America World Cup.

On July 12, soccer statistics firm Opta reported that Real Madrid players have already broken the record for most goals scored by a single club in the tournament, despite the semifinals still being ahead in the North and Central America World Cup.

The previous record for most goals scored by a single club in a World Cup was 18, first achieved by Hungary’s Budapest Honvéd in 1954.

Bayern Munich (Germany) matched this tally 60 years later. In that tournament, Thomas Müller of the championship-winning German national team scored 5 goals, while Mario Götze added 2. Arjen Robben (Netherlands) and Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland) each contributed 3 goals, Mario Mandzukic (Croatia) netted twice, and Julian Green of the U.S. national team chipped in with one goal.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) equaled the 18-goal record during the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Kylian Mbappé (France) and Lionel Messi (Argentina) combined for 15 goals, with 8 and 7 respectively. Neymar (Brazil) added 2 more, while Carlos Soler (Spain) scored once.

With the tournament still in progress, Real Madrid has surpassed the previous mark thanks to stellar performances from their star striker Mbappé (8 goals) and midfielder Jude Bellingham (England, 6 goals). Vinícius Jr. (Brazil) has also contributed 4 goals, while Arda Güler has found the net once.

Real Madrid’s goal tally is expected to increase further. Both France and England, featuring Mbappé and Bellingham respectively, have advanced to the semifinals and are guaranteed at least two more matches. In the World Cup, teams that lose in the semifinals must also compete in the third-place playoff game.
