DongKook Pharmaceutical is set to rebrand itself as DK Centellian after 58 years in business. This strategic move aims to broaden the company’s scope beyond pharmaceuticals, venturing into healthcare and beauty sectors while accelerating its global market expansion.
The company announced on Monday that its board of directors has approved the pursuit of a name change to bolster its international business growth.
The new moniker, DK Centellian, encapsulates both the firm’s rich history and its vision for future growth. DK represents the scientific credibility built over nearly six decades, while Centellian embodies the commitment to innovation based on accumulated expertise.
Since its establishment in 1968, DongKook Pharmaceutical has gained prominence in the domestic market with over-the-counter products such as the wound healing ointment Madecassol, the gum medication Insadol, and the venous circulation enhancer Censia.
In recent years, the company has been expanding its footprint in the beauty industry, primarily through its cosmetics line Centellian24. The brand’s flagship product, Madeca Cream, showcases Dongkook’s dermatological research prowess and exemplifies the successful transition of its pharmaceutical expertise into the beauty market.
The choice of Centellian in the new name aligns with the existing cosmetics brand, Centellian24. This rebranding effort appears to be a strategic move to extend a familiar consumer brand into the company’s overall identity.
Over the years, DongKook Pharmaceutical has diversified its portfolio to include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, cosmetics, and health supplements. The company anticipates that this rebranding will help unify its various business segments and enhance its brand appeal to international consumers.
A spokesperson for DongKook Pharmaceutical explained, The DK in the new name embodies the 58-year legacy of scientific trust and represents the enduring core of the company. Centellian signifies the commitment to creating innovative, future-oriented value based on the extensive expertise.
The representative further added that this name change is part of the strategy to engage with a global customer base across a wider spectrum of industries, including preventive healthcare, medical treatments, wellness, and beauty.
DongKook Pharmaceutical has scheduled an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting for the 27th of next month to vote on amendments to its articles of incorporation, which will include the proposed name change. The new name will be officially adopted if the proposal receives shareholder approval.
