EtcRory McIlroy Donates $1.6 Million Prize Money to Charity

Rory McIlroy (35, Northern Ireland), the world’s second-ranked male golfer, donated his $1.6 million prize money from a competition to a charity fund.

McIlroy claimed victory in Capital One’s “The Match 9” held at The Park Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida on the 26th.

The competition, organized by TNT Sports, was the first time that male and female golfers competed in a mixed skins format.

Prominent golfers like Max Homa, Rose Zhang, and Lexi Thompson (all from the United States) participated, battling it out regardless of gender.

McIlroy was crowned the winner and took home $1.6 million.

However, he donated this amount to the youth organization “First Tee.”
