The police have launched a forced investigation into an incident where Indonesian employees dispatched to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) were caught trying to leak information about the KF-21, the Korean fighter jet.

The National Security Investigation Department of the South Gyeongsang Province Police Agency announced on the 15th that it is conducting a search and seizure on two Indonesian researchers dispatched to KAI, who are under suspicion of violating the Defense Business Act.

The police deployed personnel to the homes and offices of two Indonesian researchers, including another suspect in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province, at 9 a.m. the previous day, securing related materials such as PCs and mobile phones.

It is currently understood that they are securing data stored on the PCs used by the suspect in Sacheon and the other in their offices.

The suspect in Sacheon and the two Indonesian employees were dispatched to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for the joint development of the KF-21 Korean fighter jet. They are currently under suspicion of trying to smuggle out KF-21-related materials.

They were reportedly caught at the security checkpoint while leaving work with several unauthorized USBs on January 17th.

Upon discovering these suspicions, the joint government investigation team, including the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, investigated the suspect in Sacheon’s suspicions and requested an investigation from the police.

An official from the South Gyeongsang Province Police Agency said, “We are taking part in an investigation in response to the request for investigation from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. We’ve conducted a search and seizure to secure related materials for the main investigation abd cannot disclose any detailed information as the investigation is ongoing.”
