U.S. ‘Strongly Condemns’ North Korean Missile Launch on Day of U.S.-South Korean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

EtcU.S. 'Strongly Condemns' North Korean Missile Launch on Day of U.S.-South Korean Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On the 18th, the U.S. Department of State strongly condemned North Korea for test-firing three short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) in conjunction with the U.S.-Korea Foreign Ministers’ meeting, stating it violated “multiple United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.”

During a briefing, Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy spokesperson for the Department of State, said, “We strongly condemn the ballistic missile launch on March 18th by North Korea. Like other ballistic missile launches over the past few years, this launch also violates multiple Security Council resolutions.”

Patel added, “This threatens regional and international peace and security. We will continue to work closely with South Korea, Japan, other allies, and partners to coordinate an international response to North Korea, which is violating UNSC’s resolutions.”

According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea fired more than three SRBMs into the East Sea from the Pyongyang area from around 7:44 a.m. to 8:22 a.m. on the 18th Korean time.
