LG Electronics OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TVs have earned multiple environmental certifications from top global organizations for reducing carbon emissions and using resources efficiently.
On Wednesday, LG Electronics said its 2025 OLED TV models received Carbon Footprint certification from the UK-based nonprofit Carbon Trust. This marks the fifth straight year LG has earned the award since 2021.
Carbon Trust evaluates a product’s carbon emissions and environmental impact across its full lifecycle—from production to disposal—before awarding the Carbon Footprint certification. LG Electronics’ 2025 OLED TV lineup, including the G5 (83/77/65/55 inch) and C5 (83 inch) models, earned the certification by cutting emissions significantly compared to earlier models in the same class.
LG Electronics OLED TVs also received the Resource Efficiency certification from Intertek, a global testing and certification firm based in the UK.
This certification goes only to products that meet strict standards in material efficiency, such as recyclable design, reduced harmful substances, and easy repair, as well as energy efficiency and the use of recycled materials. LG Electronics OLED TV models M5, G5, C5, and B5 earned the certification for their eco-friendly designs.
LG Electronics’ OLED TVs meet strict environmental standards thanks to a simpler component structure than LCD TVs, which need separate backlight units, and the use of lightweight composite materials.
A 65-inch OLED TV uses around 60% less plastic and weighs about 20% less than similar LCD TVs from major brands. LG Electronics estimates it will cut plastic use by about 16,000 tons this year by producing OLED TVs instead of the same number of LCD models.
As a result, carbon emissions from production and transport are expected to drop by about 84,000 tons. This cut equals the yearly carbon dioxide absorption of a 30-year-old pine forest the size of 11,000 soccer fields.
Last year, LG Electronics used about 30% recycled plastic in its total plastic for TV production, recycling around 6,300 tons of waste plastic. This year, the company plans to raise that share to 50%, aiming to recycle about 7,700 tons annually.
Along with international recognition, eight new TV models—including the 2025 LG OLED evo—received the E-Circular Excellent Product certification from Korea E-Circular Governance. This marks the third straight year LG Electronics has been recognized for its focus on resource circulation.
