On Monday, according to TechRadar, Google DeepMind upgraded its AI-based music production tool Music AI Sandbox, and added a new model, Lyria 2, and real-time music editing capabilities.
This feature has maintained limited accessibility as a creative platform for professional musicians and producers since its initial launch in 2023, but with this update, it is expected to be opened to film and game soundtrack creators.
Lyria 2 is capable of generating high-resolution audio and sophisticated compositions across various genres. Users can mix ambient house beats with punk sounds in real time using AI with keyboard input.
The Sandbox provides create, extend, and edit functions, and when users input their desired music style, AI can generate samples, expand existing melodies, or transform them into new genres.
AI-created music is expected to be easily identifiable through watermarking with Google’s SynthID technology. This measure seems to reflect the ongoing controversy about the boundary between real music and AI-generated music in the music industry. AI is expected to become a tool that opens up new possibilities for creators rather than replacing traditional composition methods.
