LG Electronics has unveiled the next-gen infotainment solution for software-defined vehicles (SDVs) in collaboration with MediaTek.

LG Electronics has partnered with global semiconductor giant MediaTek to showcase a cutting-edge in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) solution tailored for the SDV era at Auto Shanghai 2025, Asia’s largest motor show running from April 23 to May 2. The innovative IVI system, displayed at MediaTek’s booth, allows multiple passengers to enjoy diverse content on different displays using a single chip and operating system.

LG Electronics integrated its Concurrent Multi-User (CMU) solution, co-developed with Google and based on Android Automotive Operating System (OS), into MediaTek’s automotive IVI system-on-chip (SoC), the Dimensity Auto Platform.

This next-gen IVI technology enables vehicle occupants to access different content on individual screens seamlessly through a unified operating system. As vehicles in the SDV era feature larger and more diverse displays, the CMU solution is poised to meet the growing demand for in-car infotainment.

Unlike existing systems that require a separate OS for each display, the Android Automotive OS with CMU allows integrated control of all screens through a single OS. This approach effectively simulates multiple Android devices while optimizing central processing unit (CPU), memory, and storage resources. By minimizing system load, it creates a smooth, responsive in-vehicle content environment.

The system’s versatility is evident in its ability to support various activities simultaneously. The driver can use navigation, the front-seat passenger can stream videos, and rear-seat occupants can play games, all on their respective displays in compliance with safety regulations. Users can personalize their experience with individual login accounts, preferences, content-sharing options, and parental controls.

The collaboration between LG Electronics and MediaTek, which has been ongoing since last year, has resulted in a solution that balances high-quality content delivery with cost-effectiveness. This approach offers automakers both economic efficiency and streamlined development. The single-OS foundation also simplifies system integration and reduces maintenance overhead.

LG Electronics continues to pioneer SDV solutions for automotive clients. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 held in January, the company showcased its xDC platform, developed in partnership with Qualcomm Incorporated (Qualcomm). This platform integrates IVI and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) on a single chip, leveraging Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride Flex technology to consolidate various in-vehicle functions into one controller, further cementing LG Electronics’s position at the forefront of automotive tech innovation.
