Meta is reportedly pursuing a landmark investment of up to 10 billion USD in artificial intelligence (AI) startup Scale AI, according to a Bloomberg report. If finalized, this would mark Meta’s largest investment to date.

Scale AI specializes in data labeling services for AI model training, collaborating with tech giants like Microsoft and OpenAI. This crucial process organizes AI training data, significantly boosting the accuracy of AI models.

Bloomberg reports that Scale AI’s revenue reached 870 million USD last year, with ambitious projections of 2 billion USD for the current year. The company is also developing Defense Llama, a military-focused large language model (LLM) based on Meta’s Llama 3 architecture.

Meta previously invested in Scale AI’s 1 billion USD Series F funding round, which valued the company at 13.8 billion USD. Recent estimates suggest Scale AI’s valuation has surged to approximately 25 billion USD.

Earlier this year, Scale AI made its foray into the defense sector by securing a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense for AI agent technology development. This latest investment appears to be driven by both companies’ shared interests in advancing AI technology for defense applications.
