OpenAI has unveiled its latest addition to the ChatGPT platform: the o3-pro model. This move signals a significant leap forward in AI technology, as reported by Engadget on Tuesday. OpenAI had previously introduced the o3 and o4-mini models to ChatGPT in April, hinting at the upcoming release of an advanced o3-pro version.
The newly launched o3-pro model is engineered to harness the full potential of ChatGPT’s toolkit. Its standout feature is its ability to deliver more accurate responses by dedicating extended processing time. OpenAI emphasizes that this model is particularly well-suited for intricate queries where precision takes precedence over speed, thereby justifying the wait time of a few minutes.
Benchmark tests reveal that the o3-pro model surpasses the performance of both its predecessor, o3, and the o1-Pro model. However, users should note that it doesn’t support image generation or canvas functionalities. For these specific features, alternative models will need to be employed.
The o3-pro is now accessible to all ChatGPT Pro and Team subscribers. The enterprise and educational versions are scheduled for rollout in the coming week.
