On Wednesday, Hanmi Group unveiled a bronze sculpture commemorating the life and legacy of its late founder, Lim Seong-ki.
The unveiling ceremony took place on Monday at the newly constructed Hanmi C&C Square, located behind Hanmi Pharmaceutical’s headquarters in Songpa District, Seoul. Family members of the late chairman, including Chairwoman Song Young-sook, Vice Chair Im Joo-hyun, and President Lim Jong-hoon, were in attendance.
The event drew key figures from Hanmi Group, such as former Vice Chair Lee Kwan-soo, a long-time collaborator in drug development with Lim Seong-ki, Hanmi Pharmaceutical Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Park Jae-hyun, and several department heads. These included Kim Na-young (New Product Development), Park Myung-hee (Domestic Marketing), Shin Seong-jae (Business Management), and Choi In-young (Research and Development (R&D) Center). Hanmi Science Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sim Byeong-hwa and Online Pharm CEO Woo Gi-seok were also present.
The bronze sculpture features a likeness of Lim alongside his handwritten motto, Innovative management for a pharmaceutical powerhouse, and chronicles his major accomplishments.
The piece highlights milestones from Lim’s career, including the establishment of Lim Seong-ki Pharmacy, Korea’s first and largest new drug technology export, the development of children’s medicines based on a human-centric philosophy, Hanmi’s blood donation initiatives, and employee stock gift programs.
Notably, the sculpture also immortalizes Lim Seong-ki’s oft-repeated belief that drug development is his life’s work.
It further showcases Lim’s groundbreaking achievements in developing Korea’s first modified and combination drugs, which established the company’s unique competitive edge.
Among the highlighted products are Rosuzet, a cholesterol-lowering drug that became the first in Korea to top annual external prescription sales, along with other prescription medications like Amodipin and Amosartan. The sculpture also features popular over-the-counter products such as Suspen for children’s fever, the probiotic Medilac, and the children’s vitamin supplement Tenten.
Chairwoman Song Young-sook remarked that Lim’s spirit represents Hanmi Group’s most cherished values and legacy, which it must perpetually honor and uphold. She added that she hopes that as Hanmi employees pass by this bronze plaque on the first floor of the Hanmi C&C Square, a space symbolizing creativity and innovation, they will be inspired by Chairman Lim’s enduring vision.
