On Thursday, the People Power Party classified the issue of foreign substances in COVID-19 vaccines as a matter of national responsibility and called for a congressional investigation. They also demanded that President Lee Jae Myung order an independent probe.

During a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly, Policy Committee Chairman Jeong Jeom-sik stated that in addition to the congressional investigation, the President should personally initiate a comprehensive and independent inquiry.

He added that the findings should serve as foundational data for the congressional investigation, urging that the President must make a decision that the public can trust and accept.

Jeong also criticized the Democratic Party, saying that if this had happened under a People Power Party administration, they would have likely labeled it a national catastrophe and demanded thorough investigations and accountability. However, because it occurred during Moon Jae-in’s presidency, the Democratic Party and Lee’s government have remained passive, as if nothing happened. This exemplifies what the public sees as selective justice and political hypocrisy.

He emphasized that since the government encouraged and promoted vaccination, it must take full responsibility for the damages and concerns that arose during the process.

Jeong stressed that the congressional investigation should objectively assess the vaccine management process, damage acknowledgment, and the overall compensation system. This is crucial to restore public trust in national responses to future health crises.

Supreme Council member Kim Min-soo asserted that the COVID vaccine rollout is a national disaster created by the Moon administration, and called for a special investigation into what he termed moldy vaccines and lethal vaccines that allegedly put countless citizens at risk.

He warned that another pandemic could strike at any time. If it doesn’t address this now, it might again face forced administration of unverified vaccines by the state.

According to a report released by the Board of Audit and Inspection last month, foreign substances such as mold and hair were found in vaccines administered between 2021 and 2024. Despite this, reports were not properly processed, resulting in approximately 14.2 million doses being administered. It was also confirmed that around 43 million doses from the same batch were used.

The People Power Party submitted a formal request for a congressional investigation into the COVID-19 vaccine contamination incident on Wednesday. Deputy Floor Leader Kim Eun-hye stated that it’s a clear dereliction of duty and a serious offense that vaccines which should have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for suspension or disposal were given to the public. A comprehensive investigation and full disclosure of information are imperative.
