Sogang University’s Graduate School of Technology Management announced on Friday that it will host a forum titled, Data Unlocking the Future of Healthcare: Strategies and Challenges in University Science and Technology Commercialization.

The 7th Data Economy Conference will be held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul’s Jung-gu district. The event is organized by the Data Economy Forum and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The forum aims to explore innovative approaches to technology commercialization and data governance as universities and university hospitals emerge as key players in the artificial intelligence (AI) biohealth industry.

In the era of the data economy, the event seeks to address structural issues hindering the smooth transfer of university research outcomes to the market and propose new commercialization models.

In his keynote speech, Dr. Moon Sung-wook, dean of Sogang University’s Graduate School of Technology Management, highlighted a data paradox. He noted that despite Korea’s world-class research and development investments and medical data infrastructure, universities struggle to effectively translate their data into AI research or commercial applications.

The conference will feature two main sessions: Technology Commercialization and Data Governance in Universities and AI-Based Healthcare and Precision Nutrition Data Economy.

Dr. Oh Sang-woo from Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital will moderate the panel discussion. Experts will engage in a comprehensive dialogue on data governance innovation, open science policies, and strategies to enhance inter-agency coordination.

The Data Economy Conference, an annual event since 2020, brings together specialists from industry, academia, research institutions, and government to discuss data policies and industry trends.

Dean Moon emphasized the importance of fostering ongoing discussions to strengthen university-industry partnerships and drive technology commercialization outcomes.
