Hanmi Pharmaceutical has completed its acquisition of North American oncology-focused biotech company Aptose Biosciences.

The acquisition fulfills contractual obligations under an agreement signed by the company’s previous management in 2025. Hanmi’s current board plans to evaluate the long-term value of Aptose’s assets before determining future development plans.

According to industry sources on July 3, Hanmi finalized its acquisition of a 100% stake in Aptose, the company to which it licensed the investigational cancer drug tuspetinib in 2021. As a result, the rights to tuspetinib have effectively reverted to Hanmi Pharmaceutical.

The total cost of the acquisition was approximately $46.7 million, including roughly $37.9 million in loans previously extended to Aptose.

A Hanmi Pharmaceutical official said the acquisition was successfully completed in accordance with the original agreement, adding that additional financial impacts could arise depending on the outcome of the post-acquisition asset valuation.

The company said it will disclose the results of the asset evaluation and its future development plans through its regular regulatory filings.
