LG Electronics has launched a new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved diagnostic monitor, expanding its business-to-business (B2B) medical display business.
The company announced on Wednesday the release of the 40HT513D, a diagnostic monitor certified as a medical device by the FDA.
Unlike consumer monitors, medical diagnostic displays require exceptional accuracy for image interpretation, minimizing distortion and maintaining consistent brightness and contrast.
This new 40-inch model features a curved IPS black panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio, boasting an 11-megapixel (MP) resolution of 5120×2160. It enables healthcare professionals to perform tasks on one screen that previously required three 3MP monitors.
A standout feature is the 3 Picture By Picture (3PBP) function, which divides the screen into three sections for simultaneous display of different image sources. This allows medical staff to view X-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images, and electronic medical records (EMR) concurrently, boosting interpretation efficiency.
The monitor also includes a built-in KVM switch, allowing control of two personal computers (PCs) with a single keyboard and mouse. Users can switch between PCs by simply moving the mouse cursor and transfer files via drag-and-drop, enhancing clinical workflow.
Additionally, it incorporates a detachable calibration sensor for precise management of medical image brightness and contrast. The monitor also features specialized software functions like Focus View for highlighting areas of interest and a Pathology mode for pathological image interpretation.
LG’s proprietary LG Calibration Studio Medical software enables remote quality management of installed diagnostic monitors in hospitals, supporting compliance testing and result monitoring.
LG Electronics conducted a seven-week usability study with Professor Jeong Seung-eun from Catholic University of Korea’s Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital, receiving positive feedback on the large screen and curved display’s benefits for image interpretation.
Lee Chung-hwan, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ Display Business Division, stated that it will continue to expand the FDA-approved diagnostic monitor lineup, leveraging the advanced display technology to strengthen the position in the medical monitor market.
