DongKoo Bio & Pharma is expanding its reach into the internal medicine market, building on its strong presence in dermatology and urology. The company’s strategy is to diversify its growth in prescription drugs by enhancing its existing product lines while introducing new treatments for chronic diseases.
Industry reports from Wednesday indicate that DongKoo Bio & Pharma has maintained its leadership in the dermatology prescription market since first claiming the top spot in 2013. As of late 2025, the company still holds the number one position in dermatology prescriptions, according to data from the pharmaceutical research firm UBIST.
The company’s flagship product, Dermotasone MLE, is a topical steroid that incorporates advanced technology for skin barrier protection and moisturizing. Since its 2002 debut, it has become a staple prescription, cementing DongKoo’s reputation in dermatology.
DongKoo Bio & Pharma offers a comprehensive range of dermatological treatments, from topical therapies to immunomodulators. Their autoimmune disease treatment, Sikrin Soft Capsule, comes in 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg doses. The company plans to further strengthen its dermatology portfolio with new products like the injectable Rosamectin.
Urology has emerged as a new growth driver for the company. In 2025, urology prescriptions reached 43.4 billion KRW (about 31.4 million USD), a 20.4% year-over-year increase. The company’s ranking in this field also improved from fifth to fourth place.
Key urology products Uropa SR Tab. and Urolead continue to show strong growth. The company has also launched new products, including Gusejeong, co-developed with CTC Bio in July 2024, Cernilton A Capsule in September, and Urogard Tablet, a combination therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia, in December.
DongKoo Bio & Pharma aims to solidify its market position by expanding treatment options for major urological conditions through both existing and new products.
The company is also targeting internal medicine as a new growth sector. By expanding its line of chronic disease treatments, including the diabetes medication Empance series, DongKoo is gaining ground in the internal medicine market. With an aging population and rising chronic disease rates, the company anticipates sustained demand growth and plans to develop new products accordingly.
In otolaryngology, Donggu continues to broaden its prescription base. The allergy rhinitis treatment Allestin Tablet has become a key product, and its recent approval by the Pharmacy Committee at Seoul National University Hospital opens doors to top-tier hospitals.
DongKoo Bio & Pharma’s strategy involves maintaining its leadership in dermatology, strengthening its position in urology through product expansion, and establishing a foothold in internal medicine with a focus on chronic disease treatments.
A company spokesperson stated that they’re building on the long-standing strength in dermatology while improving the market position in urology through both established and new treatment options. It’s also expanding into new medical fields, including internal medicine, with competitive products to drive growth in the core business and secure new revenue streams.
DongKoo Bio & Pharma, founded in 1970 as Donggu Pharmaceutical, has grown into a 200 billion KRW (about 145 million USD) company based on its generic drug portfolio. Among approximately 300 domestic pharmaceutical firms, it ranks first in dermatology prescriptions, fifth in urology, and eleventh in otolaryngology when considering both covered and non-covered medications.
