The 119 Safety Call service, which allows rescue teams to instantly access patients’ medical conditions, medications, and emergency contact information during 119 calls, has expanded its support to include residents in flood-prone areas and children who may have difficulty evacuating alone during fires.
The National Fire Agency announced on the 8th that it will conduct a nationwide promotional campaign for the 119 Safety Call Service in collaboration with fire departments across all states and cities until October.
The 119 Safety Call service enables users to pre-register their health information and emergency contacts, which 119 can then access during emergencies for more effective rescue and medical assistance.
Launched in 2008, the service initially focused on senior citizens and individuals with disabilities who required emergency services. In 2023, it expanded to include residents in flood-prone areas, and last year, it further extended support to children who might struggle to evacuate during fires.
During the promotional period, fire departments nationwide will conduct at least one campaign event in high-traffic areas such as historical sites, traditional markets, and local festival venues. These events will offer on-site registration support via QR codes, interactive quizzes, options to share the registration page with family and friends, and social media promotions.
The National Fire Agency aims to encourage individuals not only to register themselves but also to assist their parents or family members in signing up. In workplaces and areas with a significant middle-aged population, they’ll use the tagline, Have you registered your parents for the 119 Safety Call?
On September 22, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (KST), a joint campaign with the Gyeonggi Fire Department will be held at KTX Gwangmyeong Station. Thirty-five participants, including officials from the National Fire Agency and the Gyeonggi Fire Department, will assist with on-site registration and offer photo opportunities, quizzes, and sharing events.
Existing users are urged to update their registration information if their address, medical conditions, or phone numbers have changed. Accurate, up-to-date information is crucial for effective rescue and medical assistance during actual emergencies.
The 119 Safety Call service ensures that emergency responders have access to vital citizen information in urgent situations, said the Director of the 119 Response Division at the National Fire Agency. It strongly encourages everyone to register in advance for their own and their family’s safety, and to actively inform their parents and those around them about this potentially life-saving service.
