LIVSMED, a leader in surgical robotics and minimally invasive surgical devices, is expanding its product portfolio, centered on its flagship multi-joint laparoscopic instrument, ArtiSential. Starting with handheld articulating surgical tools, the company has broadened its range to include vascular sealers, staplers, three-dimensional (3D) cameras, and surgical robots. This strategic move aims to offer more options in the minimally invasive surgery market.
Industry sources reported on Wednesday that LIVSMED has launched the ArtiSential PRO, an advanced multi-joint laparoscopic instrument, now available in the domestic market. The ArtiSential PRO builds on its predecessor’s core articulating design while improving ease of use and expanding product options.
ArtiSential is a handheld surgical tool featuring a tip that mimics human wrist movement, capable of 90-degree articulation in all directions. This design enhances maneuverability during laparoscopic procedures, allowing access to areas challenging for traditional straight instruments.
The introduction of ArtiSential PRO reflects LIVSMED’s strategy to broaden the user base and applications for articulating surgical instruments, rather than simply replacing existing products.
ArtiSential PRO boasts a 23% reduction in control unit height, from 239mm to 185mm, and a 9% decrease in overall weight. While maintaining its articulating structure and intuitive operation, the new design focuses on reducing hand and wrist strain for surgical teams.
Upgrades include replacing plastic adjustment rings with silicone and simplifying the joint locking mechanism to a one-touch button system. A pinch-lock feature for secure tissue and needle grasping has been incorporated into key product lines.
The product range has expanded, with monopolar precise dissectors and scissors now available in both 8mm and 5mm diameters. This addition provides more options for surgeries requiring electrosurgical cutting and tissue dissection, enabling the use of smaller incisions.

ArtiSential PRO Expands Lineup to 5mm, Improves User Experience
ArtiSential PRO offers eight end-tool options and three shaft lengths: 24cm, 29cm, and 37cm. Its compatibility with existing ArtiSential surgical setups eases adoption for hospitals.
LIVSMED’s product expansion is built on the global success of ArtiSential, now used in over 50 countries. This foundation has allowed the company to diversify beyond articulating instruments to a comprehensive range of surgical devices.
Following the launch of the ArtiSeal vascular sealer and ArtiStapler surgical stapler, LIVSMED is developing a 3D camera and the next-generation Stark surgical robot.
The development of surgical robots underscores LIVSMED’s evolution from a surgical instrument manufacturer to a comprehensive medical device company specializing in minimally invasive surgery. By leveraging its expertise in handheld instruments to expand into robotics, the company aims to offer surgeons a versatile portfolio adaptable to various surgical approaches and environments.
This strategy suggests a measured approach to entering the global surgical robotics market, building on LIVSMED’s strengths in articulating instrument technology rather than directly challenging established robotic platforms.
The ArtiSential PRO launch aligns with this strategy, enhancing existing products while expanding into the 5mm category. This move broadens the potential applications for articulating instruments and sets the stage for a future portfolio encompassing both handheld and robotic surgical tools.
Lee Jung-joo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LIVSMED, stated that true innovation is achieved when technology benefits a wider audience. It’s committed to refining the technology for diverse surgical settings, elevating care standards, and extending these benefits to more patients as a leading medtech company.
