
Alteogen announced on Thursday that it has completed an international patent application (PCT) for its innovative platform technology, Long-Lasting Conjugate. This groundbreaking approach can extend drug efficacy by combining multiple active molecules.
The company has expanded its existing platform, which selectively attaches drugs to specific antibody sites, to create a single conjugate incorporating multiple active molecules. This advancement is designed to increase a drug’s half-life, thereby prolonging its effectiveness.
Alteogen anticipates that this technology will enable less frequent dosing or longer intervals between doses while maintaining comparable therapeutic benefits. When applied to long-acting treatments, this could significantly improve patient convenience and medication adherence.
The firm is currently developing ALT-M5, a potential obesity treatment utilizing this platform, which could be administered just once a month. Animal studies have shown promising results for ALT-M5’s monthly dosing regimen and its ability to prevent weight rebound after treatment cessation. Detailed findings will be presented at an upcoming scientific conference.
These research outcomes are slated for presentation at ObesityWeek 2026, the annual meeting of the American Obesity Society, scheduled for November 14-17 in Washington, D.C. At this event, Alteogen plans to unveil its findings on weight rebound suppression using a monthly incretin fusion protein to leading obesity experts from around the world.
Incretins are hormones released by the intestines after eating, playing crucial roles in insulin secretion, blood sugar regulation, and appetite control. GLP-1 and GIP are prime examples of these hormones.
Alteogen’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Choi Tae-yeon, explained that the patented technology has the potential to revolutionize various biopharmaceuticals, enabling the development of long-acting products with monthly dosing schedules. He added that building on the promising animal study results for ALT-M5, it aims to create a game-changing obesity treatment that addresses the unmet needs of monthly dosing and post-treatment weight maintenance.
