Celltrion Pharm is expanding treatment options for patients with autoimmune diseases by launching a prefilled-syringe version of Yuflyma, an adalimumab-based treatment. The company aims to strengthen its position in the domestic market by adding a new formulation to its existing pen-type product lineup and leveraging its price competitiveness.

Celltrion Pharm said on the 2nd that it began domestic sales of Yuflyma 40 mg safety-equipped prefilled syringes (PFS-S) after the product was newly listed for coverage under South Korea’s National Health Insurance on the 1st.

Yuflyma is a biosimilar of Humira, a treatment for autoimmune diseases. With this launch, Celltrion Pharm has added a safety-equipped syringe formulation to its product portfolio, which previously focused on pen-type devices.

A prefilled syringe (PFS) is a syringe supplied with medication already loaded, while a safety-equipped prefilled syringe (PFS-S) has a protective mechanism that covers the needle after injection. The design helps reduce the risk of accidental needle exposure after use, making handling safer for medical professionals.

The price of Yuflyma 40 mg PFS-S is 220,390 won per dose, making it one of the lowest-priced products among 40 mg treatments containing the same active ingredient that are covered by South Korea’s National Health Insurance.

The new product is expected to ease the financial burden on patients requiring long-term treatment while broadening their options based on administration settings and personal preferences.

Following the launch of the 40 mg PFS-S product, Celltrion Pharm plans to introduce a 20 mg PFS version of Yuflyma in South Korea in 2027. With the addition of the lower-dose product, the company will have a domestic product lineup matching the original drug in both dosage strengths and formulations.

The company plans to expand prescribing options so medical professionals can select suitable products according to each patient’s condition and required dosage.

Celltrion Pharm’s domestic sales of Yuflyma reached approximately $5.1 million last year, up 114.8% from the previous year, as the product expanded its presence in South Korea’s autoimmune disease treatment market.

Yuflyma sales continued to grow in the first quarter of this year, reaching approximately $1.7 million, up 103.5% from the same period a year earlier.

During the same period, Celltrion Pharm’s biopharmaceutical business revenue increased 60.1% to approximately $22.3 million, with autoimmune disease treatments including Remsima and Yuflyma contributing to the growth.

A Celltrion Pharm representative said, “For patients undergoing long-term treatment, it is important to consider not only the affordability of medication but also the method of administration and how the product is handled after use. We will continue addressing the treatment needs of patients and healthcare professionals through Yuflyma’s price competitiveness and diverse product lineup.”
