Netflix has unveiled its first major home screen redesign in a decade.

On Wednesday, Business Insider reported that Netflix’s latest update focuses on reducing decision fatigue for users by enhancing its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered recommendation system and revamping the interface.

The streaming giant claims that the addition of sports and live events has optimized the TV viewing experience for subscribers. A Netflix spokesperson stated that the company has addressed the challenge users face when trying to quickly absorb information while scrolling.

The platform has also bolstered its AI capabilities. Netflix introduced a natural language search function powered by OpenAI’s large language model (LLM). This feature allows users to input specific requests such as, moderately scary movie with a touch of humor, and receive tailored recommendations.

Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), explained that by integrating OpenAI’s model with the proprietary recommendation engine, they’re aiming to deliver a more nuanced and sophisticated search experience for the users.
