Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants extended his hitting streak to five games, but his team suffered a lopsided loss.
On Thursday, Lee started as the No. 2 hitter and right fielder in an away game against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. He went 1-for-5 at the plate, maintaining his season batting average at .303 after recording hits in all five games played this month.
Lee grounded out to shortstop in his first at-bat in the opening frame. In the third, he made solid contact, but a stellar defensive play robbed him of a hit.
The Korean outfielder didn’t let his third chance slip away. He jumped on a changeup from Texas starter Cody BradFord, lacing a single to right field. However, the Giants couldn’t capitalize as the following batters failed to bring him home.
Lee had two more opportunities to add to his hit total in the seventh and ninth innings but came up empty-handed.
The Giants were shut out despite collecting eight hits, which were scattered throughout the game.
On the other hand, the Rangers, who outhit San Francisco with nine knocks, showcased their offensive prowess by plating four runs in the third inning. Their efficient attack propelled them to their second straight victory.
Following a heartbreaking walk-off loss the previous day, where Lee misjudged a fly ball, the Giants now sit at 48-67 on the season, occupying fourth place in the National League West.
