San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo (28) has gone hitless for two straight games in Major League Baseball (MLB).
On Thursday, Lee started as the leadoff right fielder in a home game against the Houston Astros at Oracle Corporation Park in San Francisco, California. He went 0-for-5 at the plate, continuing his recent slump.
Lee’s performance has dipped lately, with just 2 hits in 21 at-bats (including 1 home run) over his last five games. This cold streak has caused his season batting average to fall to 0.293.
Lee grounded out to third in the first inning. In the second, with runners on first and second and no outs, he narrowly missed a hit when his line drive sailed just foul. He then popped out to shortstop to end the at-bat.
His third plate appearance ended in frustration due to a stellar defensive play. In the fourth inning, with one out and a runner on first, Lee drove a ball to left-center, but Astros center fielder Dalton Varsho made a diving catch to rob him of a hit.
Lee’s struggles continued in his final two at-bats, grounding out to the infield in both the sixth and ninth innings.
The Giants couldn’t hold onto their early lead, falling to the Astros 2-1. The loss drops San Francisco to 50-71 on the season.
Giants starter Adrian Houser pitched brilliantly, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out five over six scoreless innings. However, the bullpen’s collapse cost him a well-deserved win.
