Ketel Marte Hits Restricted List: What It Means for Arizona Diamondbacks’ Season

0

Ketel Marte, the starting second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB), has been placed on the restricted list.

ESPN reported on Tuesday that Arizona placed Marte on the restricted list ahead of their game against the Boston Red Sox.

Arizona did not announce its starting lineup until about 15 minutes before the game began that day, reportedly due to Marte’s sudden absence.

However, the team did not disclose the reason for placing Marte on the restricted list.

Being placed on the restricted list results in an immediate suspension of salary payments, and the player does not accrue service time.

Marté was briefly placed on the restricted list last year as well after being shaken by a burglary at his home during the All-Star break.

At the time, Marté traveled to his home in the Dominican Republic and missed three games; he later apologized for the incident.

Now in his 12th MLB season and a three-time National League All-Star, Marte has recorded a .249 batting average, 21 home runs, and 67 run batted ins (RBIs) in 118 games this season.

Arizona called up infielder José Fernández to fill Marte’s spot on the roster.
