Legendary K-pop idol group BIGBANG has once again proven their enduring power by dominating domestic music charts with their 20th anniversary single.

BIGBANG’s new digital single “BiiiG,” released on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (Korean time), skyrocketed to the top of South Korea’s largest music platform Melon’s Top 100 chart just an hour after its debut.

This marks the highest user engagement for any song released this year within its first hour. Notably, claiming the top spot in just 60 minutes on a chart that combines 24-hour and recent hourly usage is an extraordinary feat.

Beyond Melon’s Top 100, the track also conquered the Hot 100 chart and real-time rankings on Genie, Bugs, and Vibe. It maintained its reign until 8:00 a.m. (Korean time) on Thursday.

The music video for “BiiiG” is also making waves, topping YouTube’s worldwide trending and music charts. The visually stunning video captures a festive atmosphere, commemorating the group’s two-decade milestone.

“BiiiG” is a high-octane hip-hop track featuring grandiose beats and catchy hooks. G-Dragon contributed to both lyrics and composition, with his rap seamlessly blending with Taeyang and Daesung’s vocals.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting this release, as it’s BIGBANG’s first new material in about 4 years and 4 months, following “Still Life” from April 2022. The trio’s dedication is evident, with their involvement extending beyond music production to visual direction and marketing strategy.

Since their debut on August 19, 2006, BIGBANG has become a cornerstone of K-pop. Hit songs like “Lies,” “Last Farewell,” “Haru Haru,” “Fantastic Baby,” and “Bang Bang Bang” have cemented their status as second-generation icons. They’ve also broken barriers internationally, becoming the first K-pop act to enter the Billboard 200 with their extended play (EP) ALIVE and setting records with a world tour that drew 1.5 million attendees.

In April, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung kicked off their anniversary celebrations with a performance at Coachella, where G-Dragon teased an upcoming world tour, igniting fan excitement.

With “BiiiG” topping charts after a four-year and four-month hiatus, BIGBANG has reaffirmed their status as K-pop’s living legends. This record-breaking comeback sets the stage for their highly anticipated world tour.

BIGBANG will launch their 20th anniversary world tour XX: COSMOS with a three-day stint at Goyang Sports Complex starting on the 21st. The extensive tour will span 19 cities across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia, totaling 33 shows. The group also plans to roll out various projects to commemorate their two-decade milestone in spectacular fashion.
